She's Ours!!! (with pictures)

We just got a call from our lawyer saying that the judge has signed the resolution for our guardianship and we can bring our little girl home!!!  Since we have to teach today and tomorrow, we will be traveling most likely on Friday morning to Asuncion to get Anahi.  We are so excited!!!  This long process is finally coming to an end and it's such a joyous time in our lives.

I can finally post pictures too!

This is when we first met her in July for the first time ( 9 months old).

This is one of our visits to Asuncion when we went to a children's festival and she bounced in the globo loco (moonwalk). (10 months)

Anahi at 11 months.  Look at those big brown eyes!

Pray for our transition as Anahi adjusts to our life and rhythm, different foods and craziness!!    We can't God enough for this indescribable gift and we also continue to thank you for lifting us up in your prayers.

  1. Wow!!! Incredible! I am SOOOO excited for your family. She is beautiful and now she's your daughter!! Tears are in my eyes as I read the earlier post about the judge and now this one. The Lord has been so gracious to grant the desires of your hearts and care for the orphans at the same time! Thank you for your beautiful testimony of Christ working in and through you as you have gone through this process. I know it hasn't been easy, but I'm so thankful for the blessing in the end!! Oh, so happy for you!!

  8. Dear Julie, Norberto and Timmy,

My heart soars with joy in reading the news that Anahi is now in your loving family! The words in your blogs are able to convey your situations and your feelings with such honesty and heartfelt emotion. Your words give such a testimony and witness to your faith, your trust, your love and your closeness with our God. When we first met with you in Encarnacion you were filled with the excited anticipation of adopting Anahi. You shared her photo with us as a proud parent of this little girl. She is so very beautiful, and you mentioned her fair coloring favoring your coloring. At that time you did not know how long you would have to wait, and thanks be to God your wait was only a short time. As I read your story when you heard the news of Anahi being Downs Syndrome and all that gripped your heart and mind that night, I could feel your emotions as it was me in that situation. Each sentence captivated me as step by step the unfolding of your thoughts was such a powerful "sermon" to my heart and soul. Thank you for speaking to my spirit as you witnessed to the closeness of God to you in this life. You made a difference in the life of Judge Evelyn as she now clings to the words of hope you gave to her. This entire story as I read on the blog is so alive with God's Providence. It is God's Providence which has led me to read of the strength of your relationship with our loving God. I send my hugs of love and warmth to each of you. I will end by saying that I was a teacher for 35 years and had the wonderful experience of having Kristen and Timmy in my kindergarten classes at different times during those years. These happy, loving children brought much joy to my heart in our days together. They were both Downs Syndrome and they were just a regular part of our class doing fine. I do not remember how many years ago I had each of them in my class, but every so often I see them and they are still loving and happy, just as their families are. My prayers of the thanksgiving to our heavenly Father for His plan in your life and for your honoring His will. Many, many blessings ~ Patty Glogowski, North Main St. Church of God, Butler, PA (We visited with Donald)

Christmas in Paraguay!

If you're wondering what Paraguayans do at Christmastime, they have some great traditions , including the " noche buena " meal on Christmas Eve at midnight.  They eat lots chipa guasu (a type of corn casserole, stay tuned for a recipe), asado or grilled meat (some eat it cold), salads, especially fruit salad, watermelon and drink mucho terere . Families travel from all over the country, many even return from working in other countries like Brazil, Argentina, and Spain, to celebrate with loved ones. This is us at last year's Kurrle celebration in Asuncion. Festivities are anything but a silent night with fireworks, loud music and drinking cidra (hard cider).  Most Paraguayans do not decorate Christmas trees (we decorate ours in shorts!) or emphasize Santa Claus.  Instead, they put beautiful nativities " pesebres " in their yards and in store fronts.  Kind of novel to focus on Christ at Christmas, isn't it! To beat the heat, many Paraguayans g

Fighting Discouragement in the Busyness of Life

Hubby and I have made an agreement not to talk about sensitive issues after 10:00 p.m. It’s a rule in our household because when we were first married our late night talks would turn into fights and we would say hurtful things, because we were tired and our reasoning senses were shot. We eliminated almost all arguments with that simple rule. Exhaustion takes the best out of a person. Another new book on the market, talks about the high burnout rate among pastors. In reading reviews of the book, the author says that lack of sleep is one of the main causes of burnout. I’m reading this book that also deals with the correlation of sleep deprivation and discouragement. It’s a book for overactive people who are seeking to strengthen a love relationship with the Lord. Being in the ministry, I feel the demands of people’s needs constantly. Daily, we hear claps at the door to pray, to chauffeur people around, to do weddings, funerals, to lead Bible studies, to counsel just about any pro

Paraguayan Weddings

On Valentine’s Day, we had the joy of attending the wedding of Sandra and Anastacio, young leaders in the church. Sandra is my assistant with Children of Promise and Anastacio, apart from his carpentry job, has a popular youth-focused radio program every night at 8:00 on our station. We’ve been to quite a few weddings, and these are some of the uniquenesses of southern Paraguayan wedding celebrations from our North American culture: 1. Nothing is fancy. Emphasis is placed on the act of marriage and not on the decorations or food. 2. It is not an expectation that parents help pay for expenses. Most families just make it each month with regular expenses and cannot afford to pay for eleborate feasts. Most couples have to spend months saving for their own wedding. 3. Borrow as much as possible. Many times wedding dresses are borrowed 5-10 times, because few women can afford their own. Flowers, decorations, shoes and ties (Norb loans out his ties often...since he never wears them!
