and that's OK. Let the mantle pass." -Miriam Adeney. I'm reading Kingdom Without Borders, which I definitely recommend. The author, Miriam Adeney, argues that today we must partner globally in missions and that the West will need to learn to follow. She says that even though most of the money, power, training institutions, publishing houses and international organizations are based in the western hemisphere, God is doing something new in our time that involves a shift from the West to the East and South. There is much to say about this issue, but I'd like to hear from you. What do you think? Should the west move over? How important is it for you to be "linked" to believers in other parts of the world?

ok, so to be honest i have this book and haven't read it. i need to get on that... i LOVE this quote though! and i think it is so vital to the future of the church. the west has seen itself as not only the religious, but political super power for so long it will be a tough shift. but it is an important one. we must move over and make room at the table now so through partnership we can move together towards a better future.
ReplyDeleteI think the west HAS to !
ReplyDeleteheres a great example: my mum has new neighbours - they are nigerians and went to Britain to get a better education for their kids. They are SHOCKED at how un christian UK is as they had themselves coem to the Lord thru British missionaries in Nigeria...so they are now trying to reach folk with the gospel.. and finding much resistence.
The West needs Christ - the church in the West needs Christ! and has much to learn from the countries they think they are helping.
On out trip this past October, it was discussed that there needs to be a shift in the way we do missions. No longer as full time missionaries, dedicated to one church in one area, but to raise up leaders that will take over our spot and do better than we could. I think that complacency has overtaken us and we need to be re-trained and open to the fact that this is a global effort.
